Miller's fourth series entry (after Big Sky River) is the story of Casey Elder, a famous singer, and Walker Parrish, a rancher. Casey's teenaged children were fathered by Walker, but, at Casey's insistence and with his reluctant agreement, the children have grown up believing that they were fathered by anonymous sperm donors. Now off the road and making Parable her family's home, Casey struggles both with how to tell their children that she lied to them and what to do about her enduring attraction to Walker. The premise of this book, that this was the best solution Casey could come up with to have her career and a family, and that a man as proud as Walker would go along with it, seems in conflict with what is shown of these characters throughout the book. Narrator Jack Garrett's easy drawl is perfectly suited to this novel that celebrates living in the West. VERDICT Casey and Walker's eventual arrival at a happy ending doesn't resolve all the issues raised on their journey, but fans of the previous books in this series, people who like stories about second chances, and those who enjoy Western-themed romances should respond well to this title.
