In 1855, fifteen-year-old Caroline, who wants to be a teacher, travels to Milwaukee to spend a year at a girls' college. Readers who like history and culture may appreciate the author's descriptions of the dress styles, social interactions, and educational methods of the day; however, the stilted prose is tedious, and Caroline's everyday activities hold little interest, making this novel inferior to other titles in the series.
