Captured, abducted, and married against her will into Boko Haram, the narrator of Girl witnesses and suffers the atrocities of a community of young men governed by a brutal code of violence. Barely more than a girl herself, she must soon learn how to survive on her own as a woman with a child. Just as the world around her seems entirely consumed by madness, she succeeds in escaping, but only to enter another world of trial and torment where she faces a journey through the forest and beyond to a place where her traumas are met with the blinkered judgment of a society in denial.
