Niibaakhom : Ojibwe warrior chief of the war of 1812

Migwans, Falcon. (Added Author). Indigenous People Project. (Added Author). Visual Education Centre. (Added Author).

Niibaakhom is a revered Ojibwe war chief from Manitoulin Island who fought alongside the British in the War of 1812. Many Canadians know little of the long history of indigenous participation in Canadian conflicts and battles. That tradition is celebrated at pow wows throughout Canada. The name Tecumseh is familiar to some, but little is known of other great indigenous leaders such as Niibaakhom and Black Hawk, especially from the indigenous perspective. With the bi-centennial of the War of 1812 fast approaching, the story of Niibaakhom is very timely. The Niibaakhom story is a blend of legend and fact that portrays a time and a man steeped in Ojibwe lore. Narration is by Falcon Migwans, a direct descendant of Niibaakhom.
