At the same time, she has to deal with some snowball-hurling bullies and babysitting her little neighbor, Fergus. When she wants to use her magic, Whammy reminds her of the snowball effect of consequences, and for the most part, she actually works hard and does well. A frustrating, last-minute change causes her to lash out and to suffer a literal snowball effect. Readers will sympathize with Salem as she succeeds in babysitting and ice-skating and almost succeeds in resisting magical temptations.
