A hairdresser solves the murder of a client. Melanie Haverstock's new red color is just what she needs to give her a lift. Too bad she gets to enjoy it for only a couple of hours before Daisy Thorne, owner of Ooh La La, the salon that created Melanie's new look, finds her dead in the alley behind the shop. Just in case finding a corpse isn't enough of a shock, Daisy quickly realizes it's her own scissors that are sticking out of Melanie's back. She also recognizes that much as handsome DCI Paul McGuinness seems to be flirting mildly every time their paths cross (a surprising number of times, considering their respective professions), she's still going to be his chief suspect. Daisy makes a quick survey of her staff. Colorist Krishna Ranganathan had no motive. Neither did shampoo girl Asa Gordon-Smith. Penny Whitely, a stylist who moonlights as a model, was at a hen party in Esher with fellow models Ferne and Apple, celebrating the upcoming wedding of their colleague Paloma. But fellow client Liz Roberts did have some run-ins with Melanie at the Edgemead Women's Institute. Were they enough to trigger such a violent reaction? Daisy needs to crack the case soon, before McGuinness' steely-eyed gaze lands her in jail. Standard shop-owner sleuth/sexy cop romp. Copyright (c) Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
